Yoga with Rebecca: Gentle Yoga
Jun 22 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

In this Gentle class, we combine slow flow with specific posture work. The class proceeds at a slower pace than the Hatha/Vinyasa class, taking longer over poses and transitions between them. This class is perfect for beginners or if you just feel you want a more gentle experience on the mat. In many ways, a gentler class can be more advanced in that we spend more time really enquiring into the poses, breath and movement.

This is about more than working your body – everything we practice physically in yoga is intimately informed  by an ancient, rich and fascinating  philosophy going back thousands of years  and yet more relevant today than ever. I weave aspects of this philosophy into the teaching of breathing techniques, physical postures, relaxation and meditation. Through my classes, my aim is for you to feel wonderfully stretched, spacious and strengthened, your breathing smooth and regular and with a deep sense of calm and alignment with what matters in life.

I first encountered yoga when I was a stressed 15 year old and my grandmother showed me a sequence of asanas (physical postures) to help focus and calm my mind. I continued to practise on an off, and in the last 10 years began to take it more seriously, establishing a regular practice. In 2014 I took this further by completing a British Wheel Foundation Course in preparation for teacher training on the British Wheel Teaching Diploma. I am now qualified as a Yoga Teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga (accounting for 500 hours of training). Teaching students of all ages and levels of experience has transformed my own relationship to yoga and confirmed this is what I most love doing!

Living River Yoga & Meditation Workshop with Rebecca & Will
Jun 24 @ 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Living River Yoga & Meditation Workshop
with Rebecca Ellis & Will Medd

Sunday 24th June 1pm – 7pm
@ The River Room, Halton Mill, LA26FD

It is the nature of all things that form,
to dissolve again…..
Buddha

“You are not a drop in the ocean, but an ocean in a drop” Rumi

From it’s original source, a river forms, ebbs and flows, twists and turns, changing rhythms between narrow flow, cascading rapids and still deep pools and meanders, until it widens and opens out to finally dissipate into the ocean. As human beings, we are made up of at least 65% water: every single cell of our bodies absorbs and releases water continually through a process of cellular respiration. We can also experience our external and internal lives as flowing change, as we too form and eventually dissolve, facing unexpected twists and turns along the way. When we experience our breath as restricted and access our body as tight and fragmented, we block this natural flow. We can close in on ourselves, unable to live fully and open to life. Unable to effortlessly enter the flow. The beautiful River Lune, flowing alongside our very own River Room, is the perfect inspiration to explore and work with our own fluidity, to find release and stillness.

In this workshop we will combine a series of soothing, exploratory practices both in the River Room and (weather permitting) outside, close to the water. We will combine Asana (physical postures), Pranayama (breathing), Meditation and Yoga Nidra, all to heighten our awareness of our inner and outer flow, to untangle our hidden blockages. 3 themes will run through the day: From form to dissolution; From effort to pure being; and From restriction to openness. We will discover our own fluidity, spaciousness and stillness and learn to move and experience life with grace, ease and power. The workshop will end by experiencing the expansiveness of letting go as our personal rivers join the ocean, and form into the freshness of a new drop.

This workshop is for everyone: the depth of practice will depend on developing awareness and not on ability. Beginners and experienced yogi(ni)s are welcome. Rebecca will lead Yoga and Pranayama practices and Will will lead Meditation and Yoga Nidra.

The timing of this workshop also coincides with the 2 year anniversary of the River Room. Please join us to celebrate this anniversary and the fact that so many people have come together to teach and participate in such a variety of fantastic classes and workshops here – we have made it happen all together.

Cost: £40 including mid-afternoon refreshments. Please email Rebecca@theriverroom.org.uk to book a place. Numbers will be limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.

Classic Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan with Steven Kidd
Jun 25 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Classic Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan instructed by Steven Kidd, affiliated with the Lancaster School of Tai Chi Chuan.
Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient Chinese discipline that strives to cultivate the mind and the body through martial training, meditation and exercise.
When practiced regularly, Tai Chi provides extraordinary health benefits, improves balance, flexibility and strength while calming the spirit and reducing stress.

Much of Tai Chi is practiced in a slow, mindful way which provides a good workout without inflicting high impact stress on the body. This makes Tai Chi accessible to everyone, including those recovering from injury or suffering from joint conditions.

Steven has studied and practiced Tai Chi to a high level under the Master teacher Paul Florkowski, founder of the Lancaster School of Tai Chi Chuan. Steven studied intensively and quickly found a natural flare for this beautiful Martial Art. Steven used his Tai Chi to overcome a Chronic illness and now wishes to share the benefits of Tai Chi to help others achieve a balanced, healthy mind and lifestyle.

Steven will be teaching the Yang Cheng Fu Long Form, Push Hands, Qigong and various Martial Drills and Applications to further the students understanding of the form movements. Initially classes will be two one hour sessions a week with a view to holding more classes of a longer duration as the class expands. If you are interested please contact Steven directly at:

Yoga for Cyclists
Jun 25 @ 7:15 pm – 8:45 pm

There are a few obvious areas specific to cyclists that yoga can truly benefit – hamstrings, abductor muscles, the pelvis and lower back. In these classes we will work through the body so to target these specific areas to keep them flexible and healthy as well as exploring ways to keep the shoulders and neck open and relaxed. My hope is that each class will leave your body feeling deeply stretched and released; a perfect ‘prehab’ before the weekend.

The classes will run at 7.15 – 8.45pm on Monday nights.

I believe that it’s worth coming to weekly classes in order to feel the progression but am also aware that this won’t work for everyone. And so drop-in is also possible.

Cost: 15 week block £100, 10 week block £70; 8 week block £60; 6 week block £45

Drop-in £9

Please let me know if you’d like to book a place or prefer to drop-in.

If you’d like any more information please email Rebecca on rebecca@theriverroom.org.uk or call 07907374278
