Five Element Fitness brings the subject of Ayurveda together with Yoga onto the mat and gives space to look at not just movement but massage practices, diet, ayurvedic supplements and lifestyle routines to access a personal daily health practice.
Each class is a blend of particular combinations of the Elements in motion (Ether, Wind, Fire, Water and Earth) to teach the body to access and activate its three primary energies (Vata, Pitta and Kapha).
The Vata classes blend both the Ether and Wind Element practices to support heart and lung health and shoulder and neck strength and flexibility. In Ayurveda Vata means ‘to move’ and it refers to moving energy in and down into the heart space and back up and out (Prana/Udana Vayu). Using a Vata practice is an important support when creating good circulation, reducing mucous build-up, unburdening the five senses, unlocking tight and congested areas in the body and creating a light-hearted and bouyant state of mind.
The Pitta classes blend both the Fire and Water Element practices to support all the core layers and the digestive system. In Ayurveda Pitta means ‘to burn’ and it refers to moving energy from the periphery into the deepest innermost layers and linings of the body and back out and around again (Samana/Vyana Vayu). Using a Pitta practice is an important support when creating good digestion, reducing toxic build up, good hormone balance, radiant skin and a centered and discerning state of mind.
The Kapha classes blend both the Earth and Water Element practices to support the foundations of the body (immunity and physical strength). In Ayurveda Kapha means ‘to hydrate’ and it refers to moving energy all around the body and then down to the base of the pelvic floor and out (Vyana/Apana Vayu). Using a Kapha practice is an important support when creating strong bones, good posture, strong immunity, stable foundations, easy and strong eliminatory system, a positive reaction to stress and an easily grounded and peaceful mind.
