Establishing A Simple Home Practice Routine

Practising yoga at home can often be daunting – getting out your mat; finding a place to put it comfortably; finding the time to suit you that day; deciding which postures to do; understanding what practice will suit how you feel now; possibly having to get changed to practise. All these things can run through your mind in the blink of an eye and the decision you ultimately come to is to not bother, although you know you would enjoy it and obviously benefit from it.

A daily practice routine need not be onerous or daunting. A few simple asanas, ranging from twists to side bends, backward and forward bends, side stretches is all you need to help keep your body flexible and healthy.

In this full-day workshop you will be guided through simple, yet body-benefitting postures and sequences which you can take home with you to incorporate into your busy lives.

Handouts will be provided but you may want to bring a pen and a notebook/paper.

please bring own lunch, drinks provided

Caring For Your Back With Yoga

“The current medical opinion based on extensive research is that the back needs to move and the sooner people with back pain get moving the sooner they will feel better.” Dru Yoga Back Care Programme

There are 3 types of back pain: Acute which usually lasts for less than 6 weeks and can resolve on its own with self-care with no residual loss of function; Subacute which is low back pain lasting between 6-12 weeks and Chronic which refers to pain which has persisted over 12 weeks.

Most back pain is not due to any serious disease. Some people can identify specific injury/event which triggered the pain and in some people the pain may have come on gradually with no identifiable movement/injury causing it. There is often a fear of movement relating to back pain but in this workshop you will be given simple, yet effective, movements to help care for your back, whether it’s in pain now or to help prevent pain occurring.

Handouts will be provided. A 5/6 week ‘Back Care Course’ is planned for later in the year to go into this issue in more depth.

Drinks will be provided.

Session 3                                               £20

Saturday 13 October 2018, 2-5pm

Benefits of Pranayama and Meditation

As well as posture work (asanas), there are 7 other limbs (stages) to the complete yogic path. These are: the yamas (moral restraints); the niyamas (duties or obligations described by a yogi/guru); pranayama (controlled breathing/control of life energy); pratyahara (freedom from domination by the senses/non‑attachment); dharana (concentration, one-pointed mental absorption); dhyana (meditation) and finally Samadhi (a indescribably blissful station of superconsciousness).

During regular yoga classes you will encounter most of these stages at some point; some without even realising it. The less obvious ones may be harder to connect with but rest assured you do move from one to another effortlessly to gain the complete yogic path. Two tangible stages we work with in every class are pranayama and meditation.

In this workshop we will explain the many benefits of a regular pranayama and meditation practice and how you can incorporate simple techniques into your daily lives to help keep your whole body as healthy as possible.

Handouts will be provided.

Drinks will be provided

Prices as marked. Discounted price of £65 if all three booked and paid for in advance.
